You’ve Probably Never Heard of Us

Let’s face it, unless you are in the medical field…scratch that, unless you are in the orthopedic field you have probably never heard of the American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons (ASES).  I know I hadn’t heard of ASES until I got interested in shoulder and elbow surgery.

But now that you have heard of them, I am going to give you a brief introduction to the ASES and why it may matter to you.

The ASES is a small but dedicated organization whose mission it is to promote excellence in shoulder and elbow care.  Its members are some of the best and brightest shoulder and elbow doctors in the world, many of whom lead university departments and practices across the country.  The ASES focuses its efforts on establishing and promoting the best methods for treating shoulder and elbow problems by driving rigorous scientific research and educational activities.

Incidentally, this year the ASES is celebrating its 40th anniversary.  It started when a group of like-minded surgeons came together to share ideas and research about vexing shoulder and elbow problems.  When the ASES started, shoulder arthroscopy was in its infancy and the modern reverse shoulder replacement did not exist.  A lot has changed since then. ASES members have often been at the forefront of revolutionizing the field of shoulder and elbow surgery.

It is with great pride that I get to call myself a member of this organization and lead this worthy mission of bringing National Shoulder and Elbow Week to Buffalo.

So why should YOU care?

Simply put there’s virtually a 100% chance that either you or someone you know will have shoulder or elbow pain at some point in your life.  Whether it’s something common like tennis elbow or something more rare but severe like shoulder arthritis, you will likely be touched. And as you may know shoulder and elbow pain are no fun.  I’ve had both and it can be miserable.

My patients often describe shoulder and elbow pain as STABBING, ACHING, like a TOOTHACHE, and BURNING.  You get the picture.

The ASESF is raising money to help better treat people with shoulder and elbow pain.  The funds help find new treatments, educate doctors, and fund research to help improve current treatments and promote those treatments best supported by science.

So now that you’ve heard of us, come join us to support NSEW in Buffalo.  We’d love to see you.  It’s going to be fun.
